Today was a day of catch ’ems: Catch ’em putting their names on their papers, pushing in a chair, moving to get away from distractions. Catch ’em smiling, catch ’em laughing, catch ’em in the smallest of successes. Catch ’em with their noses in books, their fingers flying over the keys. Catch ’em catching themselves.
And a funny thing happens when you start to catch ’em: You start to smile, to laugh, to share in their small successes. Before you know it, the pace–the breakneck, light-speed pace–it paces itself. The moments stretch out, and you long for more time, not to get it all done, but to discover more joys. They’re there, waiting to be gotten.
So go on, catch ’em.
A special thanks to Diana for the inspiration for tonight’s entry in the 2017 Slice of Life Challenge: You said the just-right thing and made this all possible!
I am so glad that you had this day with your kids!
