I’ve called you
Mom.
Mama.
Mom!
I still recognize the sound of your keys from a mile (or at least an aisle) away. I would know your whistle (the one you make with your thumb and forefinger) from at least that far, if not farther.
I still love the way you read books aloud and how I can hand over any piece of writing and you will always help it to be better, and also help me to be better in the process.
Now before this gets too heavy, let me go back to where this post started:
You are my mom, my mama, and Mom!
Now she calls you
Gram
Grami (rhymes with her name),
And sometimes, when she’s feeling sassy,
Graham Cracker.
And even now the Minis call you
Gram-gram-gram
and [almost]
Up.
They will know the sound of your keys, the reach of your whistle, the pleasure of your story-telling, and the ways you make them better.
You are our Gram, Grami, Graham Cracker, Gram-gram-gram and [almost] Up.
I am participating in the 10th annual Slice of Life Challenge hosted by Two Writing Teachers.
Love the “when she’s feeling sassy, Graham Cracker” Sassiness resonates with me.

I feel a bittersweetness to your tone in this slice. Sharing your mom with your daughter who now calls her Gram. So sweet.
