Yesterday, just as I was leaving the house for my first full day of work-not-work before the school year starts, I opened my email to see these words: “Bye, Beautiful.” It was the title of a post written by a colleague I was sure was in the same work-not-yet-work mode as I was.
So, what I thought it would be was flavored with my own grief at leaving this summer behind. What it was was a perfectly detailed moment in time where one human took the time to see – truly see – another. A moment where my friend took the time to capture and share a slice about the power in human connection.
It lifted my spirit and lifted my eyes. I drove to work-where-I’m-not-yet-working and “Bye” turned to “Hello, Beautiful” as I greeted the pastel sunrise I hadn’t seen from this vantage point in a few months. I swear it was like the clouds could see me, too.
When we take the chance to be seen and it is rewarded with connection, it sets the world on fire. And that is impossible to ignore.
