True or False? – sol#15

How well can you really know someone from reading their daily blog?  Let’s see.  First, jot down True or False to each of the five statements below about the author of this blog, using the links to do some close reading if you choose.  Then, scroll down to see how you did and report out in the poll at the bottom of this page.

1. I live and work in the heart of Denver.

1) I live and work in the heart of Denver.

False.  Just beyond the screen that displays these words is the most incredible mountain view.  We bought these four-and-a-half acres in my last year of college and spent the semester of my student teaching standing up walls, laying down roof panels, and mudding the drywall seams.  All to finish off our mountain getaway, which is easily a 70-mile round trip commute to where we work just outside of Denver.

2) I married my high school sweetheart.

True. This May will bring our 20th anniversary.  That’s 20 years since I agreed to be his girlfriend outside the door of my freshman Geometry class.  Just over thirteen years since we signed the papers on our home.  Eleven years since he gave me his name.  And almost nine years since he blessed me with our only daughter.  I know how lucky I am. 

3) I have two daughters – one who is old enough to drive and one who still snuggles me at night.

False.  We have only one daughter who is eight – almost nine.  And people have finally stopped asking when we might have another one. It is true that she is old enough to drive (with help, from one parking space on our dirt road to another).  It is also true that she still loves to snuggle me at night. And our lives are completely complete. We’ve known it since she was still in diapers.  There will not be another branch on our family tree.  She is more than we could ask for.

4) I was a teacher once, but have hung up my hat, in search of something better.

False.  Though some do describe me as “used to be a teacher,”  I now have the privilege of sharing classrooms with some of the most inspirational people our students are blessed to call their teachers. They share their kids with me in the spirit of making all of us better.  My world is still full of staff meetings and private moments in the adult restroom.  I am a teacher teacher, and just like I did when the classroom was my own, I learn more from my students (all of them) than they do from me most days.  I’d never find something better.

5) In addition to the Slice of Life Challenge, I also make time every day to run.

False.  This one makes me laugh.  I have always hated running more than the sixty feet it takes to get from home plate to first base.  But I am learning endurance of another kind.  Somewhere in the midst of this very blog post, I passed the 5K mark for words to the posted page.  Thanks for coming along for the ride.
